MPHS Alumni

Mount Pleasant High School has graduated many notable alumni, including current Green Bay Packers head football coach Matt LaFleur, current New York Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, current Georgia Bullodogs mens basketball coach Tom Crean, current Stanford head wrestling coach Jason Borrelli, former Duke University basketball player Vicki Krapohl, PGA golfers Doug LaBelle II, Dan Pohland LPGA golfers Cindy Figg-Currier and Kelly Robbins. Alumni Ryan Brehm is the all time record setting medalist at Michigan State University and last year’s Michigan Amateur Champion. Alumnus Paul Carey (broadcaster) was a Detroit Tiger announcer for 19 seasons and a Detroit Piston’s announcer for 6 seasons. Alumnus Bill Theunissen, an outstanding athlete at MPHS as well as Central Michigan University, was dean of the school of Health and Physical Education for 20 years at Central, and was the university’s baseball coach for 10 years; the university’s baseball stadium is named Bill Theunissen Stadium after this coach. The MPHS championship baseball program claims numerous drafted players.  Samantha Chiodo (2011 MPHS Alumnus) was an integral part of the NCAA National Equestrian Champion for South Carolina University.

Mt. Pleasant High School is proud of its rich academic and fine arts tradition in addition to its athletic success, including Rhodes Scholars (one of whom, Jonathan Beere, is now a professor at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Marshall Scholarship winners and growing ranks of nationally acclaimed musicians. Internationally known scientists and educators include Robert Knapp, Chairman emeritas of California- Berkeley’s Classics Department, world respected ornithologist Francine Cuthbert PhD, Daniel Hole, co-creator of the “Marlboro Man” graphic icon. Retired Longtime Managing Editor of the Mt. Pleasant-based Michigan Oil & Gas News magazine and author of more than a dozen Photo history books aa well as a Michigan historical novel Jack R. Westbrook is a 1957 MPHS alum.  Internationally prominent musicians and performers include Amy Gillingham (Oxford), MPHS alum Abby Church performs on Broadway and does TV commercials, and Justin Endres won another Emmy at ESPN.

Mt. Pleasant High School alumni is proud of it’s alumni who have excelled in the world of business and technology.  Zoltan Csendes started the company Ansoft which is a huge GLOBAL software firm working with major worldwide companies–over 300 million in annual sales.  Tim Moore’s firm, Audience Development Group, is the largest American radio consulting firm. He originated the Radio Program at Mt. Pleasant High School.  Todd Anson attended UM Law and later became a Managing Partner of California’s 2nd largest law firm, started a significant international real estate company building technology company campuses globally for Cisco Systems & BIOGEN Pharmaceuticals, among others, and his role to bring Jim Harbaugh back to UM as Head Football Coach was chronicled in John U. Bacon’s bestselling book, “Endzone.”
