MPPS Balanced Calendar Information

Thank you, once again, for your support of the 2016 Bond Issue, which has allowed Mt. Pleasant Public Schools to make substantial upgrades and improvements.  We are excited about the many building projects that have been completed in our schools, including everything from secure building office entrances at each of our schools to new age appropriate playgrounds!

We are now excited to provide families with the ability to choose a “Balanced Calendar” approach to the school year!

Here is a very simplified example of a Balanced Calendar schedule.  Each calendar option will continue to offer the required 180 days of instruction to our students.

Not to be confused with “Year Round School,” the “Balanced Calendar” option balances out the Traditional Calendar by providing students and teachers breaks throughout the school year.  The Balanced Calendar option allows students to participate in optional “Enrichment Intersessions” during the breaks, ultimately leading to less learning loss as compared to the Traditional Calendar. What is Enrichment Intersessions? They consist of themed learning weeks that enhance learning by offering hands on activities such as STEM and Maker Space, increased outdoor play, cooperative learning, and field trips.

Enrichment Intersessions would be available to families for about $10.00 per day, and scholarships will be readily available.  The “Balanced Calendar”option provides families with the same main breaks that the Traditional Calendar offers, such as a two week Holiday Break in late December, as well as Spring Break the last week of March/first week of April.

Our district will offer the Balanced Calendar “school within a school” approach at Pullen and McGuire Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year.
