Dear Mt. Pleasant Public Schools Families,
At Mt. Pleasant Public Schools, we believe that every day matters when it comes to student learning, growth, and connection. That is why we are excited to introduce our new districtwide attendance initiative, Strive for Five.
Strive for Five is a positive, family-focused campaign that encourages students to miss no more than five days of school total throughout the school year whenever possible. Our goal is to partner with families to support consistent attendance while recognizing that health, safety, and well-being always come first.
Why Attendance Matters at Every Grade Level
Regular school attendance plays a critical role in student success—academically, socially, and emotionally—at all ages:
Early Childhood & Elementary School: Daily attendance builds strong learning habits, supports early reading and math development, and helps children feel secure and connected at school.
Middle School: Consistent attendance supports academic progress, positive peer relationships, and engagement during a key developmental period.
High School: Attendance is directly connected to earning credits, staying on track for graduation, and preparing for college, careers, and future opportunities.
Even missing just a few days each month can add up and impact learning more than many families realize.
Our Commitment to Families
We understand that absences sometimes happen due to illness, family emergencies, or other circumstances. Strive for Five is not about punishment—it is about awareness, encouragement, and partnership. Our schools will continue working with families to provide support, resources, and flexibility when challenges arise.
Throughout the remainder of this school year, you may see:
School-wide celebrations and recognition for positive attendance
Family communication and tips for supporting attendance at home
Staff reaching out to partner with families when attendance concerns arise
If your family is facing obstacles that make regular attendance difficult—whether they are related to transportation, health, or other personal challenges—please reach out to your school Principal or Counselor so we can work together to find solutions and support your student.
Together, we can help our students build strong routines, feel connected to school, and reach their full potential. Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to support your child’s success. Let’s work together to Strive for Five and make every day count!
Take good care -
