It’s the last week to participate in Coins for a Cause! Don’t forget to have your students bring in spare change. All of the money raised goes to Gratiot County Hope House to support their homeless shelter and a few Ganiard families in need this holiday season. The classroom that raises the most will win a PIZZA PARTY!

Last week Mr. O'Toole's class started back up the "Gourmet Gator Cafe." It is a project the Ganiard MiCI class did for a couple years before Covid hit and we haven't done it since! We are back in a position where we can do this again and we are so excited about it! Friday was our first sale, and on Wednesday and Thursday last week our class worked hard to prepare pumpkin muffins and take orders from Ganiard staff! It was a great day, the students loved it and we learned a lot of great skills. With our cafe we work on functional skills such as hygiene, food prep, and kitchen safety. When taking orders and making deliveries, we can work on language and communication. When it is time to collect payments, the students can see real word examples of using money, counting money, and making change! Our cafe was a huge success and we look forward to sharing future photos too!

This week's information from our YSU officers. Here are some crime prevention tips for parents: -Teach children safety: Teach children to be aware of their surroundings, walk confidently, and avoid dangerous places. Children should also know how to settle arguments peacefully and never bring weapons to school. -Set boundaries: Set limits on where your children can go, and make sure they know when to check in with you. You can also pick a safe house in your neighborhood where your children can go if they need help. -Get to know your children's friends: Meet your children's friends' parents and keep their phone numbers. -Be aware of suspicious people: Alert the police if you see suspicious people loitering. Protect your home: Don't leave valuables in plain sight, and lock your car doors when you're away. -Protect your finances: Check your bank and billing statements for unauthorized charges, and don't write account numbers on checks. -Protect your online safety: Teach your children to never give out their password, change it frequently, and only use kid-friendly websites. -Report abuse: If you suspect child abuse, you can report it to social services. You can also contact law enforcement for referrals to crime prevention programs
