Second week of A.L.I.C.E review.
L stands for Lockdown. MPPS is fortunate to have the night lock system throughout the district. This system greatly increases the safety of staff and students during a lockdown. Please be sure to know where your nightlock is located and familiarize yourself with it. Once the nightlock is in, it is crucial that you still barricade. Barricades can be desks, shelves, chairs, or any object to prevent/slow down anyone from entering your room. Enhanced lockdown provides time for law enforcement’s arrival or safe evacuation. ALICE’s enhanced lockdown has five key strategies:
-Control Doors
-Barricade
-Spread Out
-Prepare to Evacuate or Counter
-Area Denial

Ganiard Families, we will be hosting a Walk-a-Thon on Friday, October 4 at Ganiard to help support our gators! Students will help support the cause by being active and walking laps around the school and doing some fun obstacles. Funds raised will go toward field trips, books for the vending machine, and recess items.
Students were sent home with information and pledge sheets last week. Pledges are a general amount and are not per lap. Donating is convenient and can be accessed by going to the following link:

Thank you for supporting our gator students!

MPPS uses the A.L.I.C.E lockdown model. We will discuss each letter acronym individually and conclude this segment with a brief overview of all of the letters and how we implement this. First we will start with A. The A in A.L.I.C.E stands for Alert.
Being fully aware of one's surroundings is at the heart of situational awareness. Awareness includes recognizing suspicious persons or packages and knowing where the exits are inside a building. Alert is also about overcoming denial and accepting reality. A speedy response can save lives. Knowing when something isn’t right and being able to recognize it is crucial.

Enjoy your long weekend Gators! We will see you Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Popcorn tomorrow!
